There are two methods that are commonly used in the preparation of Saffron.

The best method of preparation is not to crush the Saffron threads. For every teaspoon of Saffron thread used, add three teaspoons of water, making sure that that the threads are thoroughly soaked. Add the mixture to approximately 40 ml of luke warm water in a bowl or tumbler and leave for a minimum of 2 hours. Add the contents to your recipe.

The second method is an express method. Simply add 5 teaspoons of water for every teaspoon of Saffron. Soak the threads and mesh the threads by using the back of a spoon. Add the paste to your recipe.
